For The Ages founder Jacqueline Syms calls her line of artful, vegan handbags “the new nostalgia”—emphasis on new. Of course, she’s undoubtedly referencing her best-selling Ineva style’s sculptural, abstract silhouette and ‘70s-inspired moire texture that put For The Ages on the map with NYC’s style set. But the brand, which officially launched in October 2019, is much more than a one-hit wonder.

Even more, this isn’t Syms’ first foray into designing: She founded a line of patented multi-functional fashion accessories called StyleString in 2015, and incorporated it into the For The Ages’ first collection. “For some reason people just didn’t get it like I wanted them to,” says Syms, who quickly pivoted to the timeless brand we know now. Designed in NYC and produced in limited runs in Los Angeles largely from recycled fabrics, For The Ages is made to withstand the trend cycle, Syms says. “Not only will the bags last decades, but they’ll still be relevant from a design standpoint for years to come,” she says. “For The Ages is a phrase that means something that withstands time—it transcends, and that is exactly the ethos I wanted the brand to stand for.”
